November favorites: motivational books and podcasts

Hi there! Recently, I’ve jumped back onto the self-development bandwagon and because I’ve come across some really amazing resources, including motivational books and podcasts, I wanted to make sure you could benefit from them, too! Some of the items on this list are new while others are my old faves that I like to come back to. If you haven’t read my previous post on truly life-changing self-development books, definitely check it out as well!

But, let’s get on with the books and podcasts that I’ve been reading and listening to every day in the past few weeks. They touch upon a bunch of topics such as self-help, motivation, and positivity, but also inspiration, entrepreneurship, finding your passion and life’s purpose, and many more.

Note to the skeptics: While I know that the self-help world might seem all happy and bubbly, it's also filled with real stories and personal experiences so if anything, I hope that helps to keep you interested.

So here it goes:

November favorites: motivational books and podcasts

Pursuit with Purpose

Podcast by Melyssa Griffin

This is the newest podcast that I’ve been listening to almost every day recently. I love the guests Melyssa invites to each of her episodes. They bring in so much energy and inspiration, and their advice is always something that I feel I can implement in my life, even if it doesn’t relate to me directly.

Some of my favorite episodes featured Vienna Pharaon, Jim Kwik, Mark Manson, Gretchen Rubin, and Lewis Howes. While I knew some of her guests before, most episodes introduced me to amazing people whose books are on my to-read list (coming up in December!).

Whether you feel like getting some motivation or you could use some serious help in figuring out what you want to be doing in life, this podcast is perfect for that. A lot of the advice focuses on entrepreneurs so if that’s something that you’ve been wanting to do, it’s a great way to get some inspiration and motivation to get going.

If you’re looking for more personal self-development content, Melyssa and her guests also talk about that a lot. I know I keep learning so much about myself by listening to this podcast.

The School of Greatness

Podcast by Lewis Howes

As I’ve mentioned before, I learned about Lewis Howes through Melyssa Griffin’s podcast Pursuit with Purpose. The talk they had during that episode was amazing and made me think, huh, that guy knows what he’s talking about, let’s check out his own podcast.

Side note: many of the guest speakers on many podcasts have their own (free) resources available online so it’s a great way to get to know and to get access to more of them that way.

So the first episode of the School of Greatness that I watched featured Mel Robbins and it absolutely blew my mind. (The direct link is above.) It was so personal and honest, and so relatable, I was truly grateful that she decided to share so much with the listeners. The talk taught me a lot about how to work on your self-confidence and how to actually take action even when we don’t feel like it.

Lewis’ podcast features many more amazing humans so check it out! There are over 500 episodes out there at the moment, lots of topics to choose from.

Side Hustle

Book by Chris Guillebeau

I’ve previously read one other book by Chris Guillebeau, The 100$ Startup. I absolutely love books that are quirky, funny and engaging, and his writing style is exactly that while he provides great content and very actionable tips.

So when I saw this new book and read the summary at the back, what struck me was the heading: how to launch a profitable side hustle in just 27 days. Seems almost impossible or too good to be true, right?

Well, I’ve spent some time almost every day reading this book and working on what each chapter outlines, and I’m super excited to say I’m well on my way to launching a new project.

So if there’s a business idea that you have or anything that’s been stuck in your head that you still haven’t tried doing, grab a copy of this book and give your ideas a shot! Each chapter is concise, easy to follow, loaded with inspiring examples and clear tips on how to accomplish each necessary step.

You Are a Badass

Book by Joe Sincero

This book is listed here again after being mentioned in my previous list of top 4 self-development books because, as far as motivational books go, this one is by far my favorite. And so I’ve obviously decided to re-read it recently. You know how sometimes you just need some goofiness combined with sound advice and encouragement? Well, that’s what this book is to me and I feel that it’s honestly a great place to start when entering the self-help/self-development world.

So, no matter where you are in life, what your goals are – or if you have no idea what they might be – this book is going to give you ideas and tools to make some changes.

Have you read or listened to these before? If so, let me know if you like them as much as I do! I'm also super excited to discover more new awesome authors and resources so do share your favorites with me and other readers.
