Hello there, lovely people! Since the summer is coming and the days are longer and warmer, I begin to crave fruit more than usually - which is still a lot, believe me. Hence today’s blog post dedicated to smoothie bowls - because who wouldn’t want a great excuse to eat fresh, great-tasting and colorful breakfasts? I know I would!
But the recipes I’m about to share with you are not just your regular blueberry or raspberry smoothies - although they are still staples in my breakfast repertoire. Today’s recipes are more fun and creative smoothie flavor combos, great for those of you who get easily bored of eating the same foods over and over again. So let’s get to it!
For the ingredient ratios and generally instructions on how to prepare delicious smoothies and smoothie bowls, I’m going to refer you to my post with the basic smoothie recipe that I use every day.
This recipe gives you an idea of how to go about preparing a smoothie. There are obviously no strict rules about the amount of ingredients you need to use and you can vary the ratios and the flavors as much as you’d like - but hopefully a basic recipe will help you get started ;)
Now, let me share those amazing flavors I’ve come up with for you!
Fun smoothie bowl flavors
I’m starting with this one because it’s fresh, delicious and summer-y. I love this flavor combo and I honestly never suspected it’d be that good! Simply use the same amounts of frozen strawberries and peaches so one doesn’t overpower the other, and you’re in for a yummy treat!
For all the chocolate AND coffee lovers out there (I’m waving frantically), this mocha smoothie will blow your mind, I promise. I’ve tried out many recipes for mocha smoothies and so far most of them haven’t lived up to my expectations.
So, to get this delicious flavor, simply add 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder and 1 tablespoon of instant coffee powder to other basic ingredients (water/milk, bananas) and that’s it!
A hidden perk of this smoothie is that you can easily add frozen blueberries to this mix and you will barely taste them because the coffee and cocoa combination is already so full of flavor - but the frozen fruit will add a bit of a thicker texture and make the smoothie colder, too!
Same goes for leafy greens - feel free to add spinach, kale (be careful not too add too much) or collard greens, and they won’t change the color or the flavor much but they definitely will add lots of nutritional goodness to your smoothie.
Slightly freaked out by this combination? No worries, I was too! Until I gave it a try and got totally hooked on the vibrant red color. And it's a great way to sneak some veggies into your breakfast or any on-the-go meal, really!
Super healthy cinnamon green smoothie
Okay, I know the name doesn’t sound super attractive to those of you who aren’t necessarily health freaks like me but I promise this smoothie is so delicious, you won’t even know you’re drinking your greens while enjoying the taste! The ‘secret’ of this smoothie is adding a bit of cinnamon to make it sweeter.
Of course, don’t forget to add some toppings to your smoothie - feel free to get inspiration from the photos or get creative! I usually use peanut or almond butter for some extra protein and of course the flavor - I’m totally a nut butter addict (could be worse, right?).
One of my favorite nut butters are by Pip&Nut - and no, this post is not sponsored at all (I wish!). Their coconut almond butter and crunchy maple peanut butter are to die for, so definitely give them a try - you won't regret it!
Let me know if you try any of these smoothies and share your favorite smoothie flavors, I'd love to try some new flavors!
